THE SYMBIOTIC FUNGUS

A central part of the Skyline Jungle story and concept, the neural fungus is the liberator of the will whose side effect is runaway power. What is it all about?

This fungus (Cryptococcus Immitis-3K) fuses with the nervous system and connects the individual to a larger collective.  There are two types:

​

1) Microbial Connectors

This version of the neural fungus is what lives in the bodies of the two powerful jungle inhabitants, Prak and Neuma. The fungus that touches every part of your brain and anatomy allows the human mind to exert its will on microbe life - uniting them with the flow of nature itself. 

How it's used is up to the individual - it can be use for healing, nutrition, growth and managing an ecosystem. Or a person can rise to become a god, using its power to transcend humanity. 

2) Nanite Connectors

This version of the neural function is what lives in the bodies of Urbosphere dwellers, Sten, Dray and Kozlow. The Fungus connects to tiny nano-computers (nanites) giving the host power over human civilization in all its complexity. It takes decades, even centuries to take full power away from the central AI mind (Corgo), but Kozlow becomes a self-proclaimed god of the human world, using his power for personal pleasure and self gratification. His pleasure often means the death of many - the desecration of dead bodies as he uses them as his own personal human drones.
